Davit Caps

Where stone ballast is present within the roof build-up, or davit bases are installed on public terraces, davit caps prevent sockets from becoming lodged with roof infill or misused as litter bins. Different models address different application requirements and aesthetic standards.

The mushroom cap (domed fit architectural) features Grade 304 stainless steel construction with a Ø76.2mm internal spigot, allowing water runoff away from the internal davit tube – ideal for exposed roof locations.

The expanding foam cap employs SEP's unique compression-expansion foam locking mechanism. A neoprene foam washer sandwiched between two stainless steel plates expands horizontally when compressed vertically, creating a tight, secure fit within the davit socket via recessed countersunk set screw.

The plastic cap is a cost-effective, simple solution that fits snugly into davit sockets. Optional tethers are available for weather caps where site conditions involve excessive wind speeds.

Available Options:

  • Mushroom cap (DVTB-COWL-SS): stainless steel, water-shedding design
  • Expanding foam Cap (DVTB-CAP-SS): compression-expansion locking mechanism
  • Plastic cap (DVTB-CAP-P): cost-effective basic protection

Reverse Test Arms

BS 7883:2019 and LOLER sections 9.2 and 9.3 state that all davit bases must undergo inspection before first use and every six months thereafter. SEP recognises the importance of ensuring compliance in a safe and cost-effective manner associated with traditional testing methods. Our revolutionary reverse test arms are the solution, eliminating the need for lifting weighted baskets and other labour-intensive processes, and ensuring compliance in a safe and cost-effective manner.

An adjustable lightweight aluminium bridge and a pre-engineered test arm constructed from the same extrusions as the DavitPro arm guarantees full compatibility with existing davit bases. To perform the test, the arm inserts into the davit base via the spigot, and the bridge assembles securely over designated test-locating eyelets. Using a pull tester, predetermined load is applied simulating real-world usage conditions.

This innovative method eliminates suspended loads that can pose additional health and safety risks, ensuring recertification technicians remain safely on the roof throughout the process. It’s a groundbreaking testing solution that enhances safety and efficiency, simplifies compliance, and elevates industry standards.

FAQS

Accessories Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our height safety accessories, including compatibility, specifications, installation requirements, and maintenance guidance. Our technical team is available to provide expert advice on selecting and implementing the optimal accessories for your specific system configuration.

Most DavitPro accessories are compatiblea cross the range, but not all fit every base.

Acessories that connect to the davit arm (such as gangplanks and reverse test arms) offer the broadest compatibility. Accessories that inset directly into the base socket depend on base type, sock size and height.

Davit caps and certain anchor-related components must match the correct socket geometry and fixing pattern. Once the base type and height are confirmed, compatibility is straightforward to verify.

if in doubt, confirm your base specification before ordering.

Gangplanks and spine ladders remove predictable risks at the roof edge.

Gangplanks create a stable anti-slip route over parapets or architectural obstructions, eliminating unsafe stepping or improvised solutions.

Spine ladders provide a controlled, pupose-designed way to climb the davit mast with secure handholds and consistent rung spacing.

Together, they turn high-risk transition points into engineered, repeatable safe access procedures.

The Reverse Test Arm keeps all testing activity on the roof.

Instead of suspending heavy loads over the building edge, it applies horizontal load using a pull tester. This removes edge exposure, dropped object risk, and complex rigging.

It is faster, requires fewer personnel, simplifies logistics, and complies with BS 7883 and LOLER requirements. For many organisations, it significantly reduces testing time and labour costs.

The right choice depends on usage frequency and site conditions.

Permanent rooftop storage boxes are ideal for buildings with regular façade access. They reduce transport time, improve convenience and provide secure, weather-resistant storage.

Storage bags suit occasional use or portfolios where equipment rotates between sites. They offer flexibility and lower upfront cost.

High-use buildings often benefit from fixed storage, while multi-site operations may prefer bags, or a combination of both.

Pedestals are used when roof build-up depth prevents a standard base from sitting at the correct finished height.

They raise the socket through insulation, paving, or green roof rystems to ensure proper engagement and safe operation.

They are also commonly used on amenity roofs where sockets must remain concealed until needed.

Davit cap selection depends on the debris risk, exposure and security needs.

- Gravel or green roofs require a robust protection
- Exposed or coastal environments favour stainless steel caps
- Sheltered, low-risk roofs may use simpler solutions

Always confirm socket compatibility before ordering.

Most accessories can be added to existing DavitPro installations, provided the base type and configuration are confirmed. A review of base specification ensures compatibility and avoids rework.

When specified correctly, DavitPro accessories integrate within the system's design intent and maintain compliance with relevant standards. Always ensure accessories are installed and used in accordance with manufacturer guidance.

Most accessories are delivered ready for straightforward installation. Larger items such as storage boxes may require positioning and fixing on site.

Provide the base type, socket diameter, height and installation detail. Our team can quickly confirm compatibility and advise on correct accessory selection.
